Edgwood Lumber Company was in the business of manufacturing rough and dressed lumber, shingles, lath and other wood products. The company was operated by William Waldie as principal from about 1913 through 1928. Originally from Ontario where family members were involved in the lumber industry, William Waldie and his company maintained a business and personal relationship with Robert S. Waldie and Fred N. Waldie of the Victoria Harbour Lumber Company Limited, wholesale lumber manufacturing and merchants of Victoria Harbour and Toronto, Ontario. To provide wood for the Edgewood Lumber Co., Ltd. mill situated at Castlegar, sometimes known locally as 'Waldie's Mill', the company bought and sold timber licences. Thus, Waldie was involved as an investor in Sunset Mills, Limited. By January, 1929 the corporate name changed to William Waldie & Sons Ltd.; William Waldie remained President, John Carruthers Waldie became Vice-President, and William Thompson Waldie became Secretary.

The records of Edgewood Lumber Company, Limited and its successor, Wm. Waldie & Sons Limited, were maintained at its place of business in Castlegar. For a period of time the records were in the possession of Wm. Waldie's son, Robert T. Waldie, who died in 1975. The records were donated to Selkirk College Regional Archives in 1988 by Ruth Waldie, Robert's spouse. Further information on the custodial history is unavailable.
