A review of management and enhancement options for the Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) with special reference to the Williston Reservoir watershed in British Columbia.
This report reviews the biological and ecological features of Arcticgrayling relevant to its management and enhancement in British Columbia, with comparisons to the features of the European grayling (Thymallus thymallus).
Information is included on grayling distribution, fecundity and spawning, hatching and fry dispersal, habitat requirements and use, feeding, age and growth rate, migration and homing, stocks, population size, and population controls.
The report then discusses the environmental impacts on grayling from impoundments, pipelines,mining, roads and culverts, forestry, and introductions of other species, as well as impacts from sport fishing.
This is followed by a discussion of grayling management practices such as hatchery culture, instream incubation, predator control, and stream habitat restoration.
The report concludes with options for grayling management and enhancement in the Williston Reservoir watershed.
