'Another world' : William Ord Mackenzie's sojourn in the Canadas, 1839-1843

Summary: On February 11, 1839, a twenty-three-year-old recently graduated British army surgeon began his first posting abroad, to Canada--a voyage to "another world." William Ord Mackenzie's account of that journey and that posting, from February 1839 to October 1843, is documented in an extraordinarily vivid journal.
