Status of knowledge report : Duncan Dam : a fisheries assessment and planning study

Summary: The overall purpose of this study is to summarize the status of knowledge regarding the documented and possible impacts of Duncan Dam on the availability, suitability and use of fish habitat in the Duncan River system. Specifically, the objectives of the review were to summarize available information on the spatial and temporal distribution of fish in the Duncan River system that may be affected during some life history stage by the physical presence or operations of the dam; document known or possible effects of the facility on fish habitat and its use, including a discussion of operation and maintenance activities that may have direct or indirect implications to fish, fish habitat or fish harvest; evaluate the ecological significance of potential impacts of the dam; identify mitigation measures and compensation strategies that have been undertaken to date and responses that are worthy of future investigation, and determine the likely effectiveness of these measures; identify remaining data deficiencies that hamper evaluating the nature or significance of dam-related impacts; and recommend studies that could be initiated to assist in either quantifying fish-related impacts of Duncan Dam or documenting the effectiveness of mitigation, compensation or enhancement activities.
