The influence of soil fauna on ecosystem processes in forests of British Columbia

Summary: Soil invertebrates represent a significant proportion of forest biodiversity and where studied they have been shown to have key roles in the maintenance of forest structure and function. This study was aimed to improve our understanding of the ecological role of soil invertebrates in two forest ecosystems of British Columbia (CWH and SBS). We relied on three approaches to accomplish this objective: (1) laboratory "microcosm" and field "mesocosm" studies focusing on manipulations of communities components (2) detailed studies linking a millipede species to ecosystem processes, and (3) field surveys of millipedes abundances.
