Summary: Batoche, on the South Saskatchewan River forty miles south of Prince Albert in central Saskatchewan, is now a quiet national historic site. But between 9 and 12 May 1885, twenty-five Canadians - whites, Indians and Metis - died there. Over a thousand men fought in the largest and longest battle ever to take place on the Canadian prairies.
